London Eye, London England

The London Eye is another one of the most famous tourist attractions here in London, England. London Eye is a giant Ferris Wheel situated on the banks of the River Thames, London England. It is the UK's most popular paid visitor attraction, visited by over 3.5 million per year.It was the tallest ferris wheel in the world, until the Star of Nanchang in 2006 first surpassed it then the Singapore Flyer back in 2008.The cost spent in constructing the London Eye is 70 million pounds. The construction started way back 1998 and inaugurated last 31st of December 1999. It was publicly opened on March 9, 2000, it was know as Millennium Wheel.Since then it become the iconic landmark and symbol of Great Britain.

The London Eye or Millennium Wheel was officially called the British Airways London Eye and then the Merlin Entertainments London Eye. Since January 20, 2011, its official name is EDF Energy London Eye following a three-year sponsorship deal. With regards to the design and construction, the wheel's 32sealed and air-conditioned ovoidal passenger capsules, designed and supplied by Leitner-Poma, are attached to the external circumference of the wheel and rotated by electric motors. Each capsule represents one of the London Boroughs, weighs 10 tonnes and holds 25 people, who are free to walk around inside the capsule, though seating is provided. The wheel rotates at 26 cm (10 in) per second (about 0.9 km/h or 0.6 mph) so that one revolution takes about 30 minutes. It does not  usually stop to take on passengers; the rotation rate is slow enough to allow passengers to walk on and off the moving capsules at ground level. It is, however, stopped to allow disabled or elderly passengers time to embark and disembark safely.

Since January 1, 2005, the London Eye has been a focal point of London's New Year celebration, with 10 minute display place involving fireworks fired from the wheel itself.

During the bidding process of the 2012 Olympic Games, the London bid organizers announced the Olympic emblem would be attached to the Eye for the duration of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

It's more fun in the Philippines

This is the new slogan of the Department of Tourism, "It's more fun in the Philippines". A new way of promoting our Country in the simplest manner that everyone can relate to.A catchy meaning that every tourist in any parts of the World, once visited our country will understand what it connotes. Most of the Filipino's now are more open minded in terms of tourism. Thanks to the technology and social networking, everything is within our reach. Acknowledgement also to all the Airline Companies, because of their Airfare promotions and cheaper rates, even the public can afford to purchase because of its good deals. We can now travel and visit all the tourist attractions, virgin forest and islands that the Philippines is rich of. A beauty of nature and it's people is a memory to be cherished. Filipino's are naturally a happy people, you can always see a smile in their face, very polite, accommodating, friendly, hardworking and fun to be with. Tourist's not only love the Country, the Food but also the People that they met as they journey to explore the beauty of the Philippines.

As the saying says, "We shouldn't be a foreigner in our own Country." Let's all join hands in promoting and helping our department of tourism in the simplest way that we can. We should also keep i mind that we are not just helping the government but we are helping our native people to have jobs one of which could be as a Tour Guide or from buying the Souvenirs that they made. Like this blog site, it's the simplest way that I can do to help our Filipino people and to help our country, Philippines.

It's trully more fun in the Philippines!!!

Who is Madame Tussauds?

Anna Maria Grosholtz a.k.a Madame Tussauds was born on Dec. 1, 1761 at Strasbourg, France.Daughter of  Anne-Marie Walder and Joseph Grosholtz. Her mother brought her to Bern to work as a housekeeper for Dr. Philippe Curtius. Curtius was a physician and was skilled in wax modelling which he uses to illustrate his anatomy and later started to do portraits. Curtius taught Madame Tussauds the art of wax modelling; she showed a lot of talent and started to work for him. It was the year 1778, when she created her first wax figure, that of Jean-Jack Rousseau. She also created some of the famous personages such as Voltaire and Benjamin Franklin. She claimed in later years to teach votive making to Elizabeth the sister of Louis the XVI. The royal family were so pleased with her work.In Paris she got involved with the French revolution that she was almost got executed by guillotine.Tussaud was also employed to make death masks of the victim of guillotine. When Curtius died, he left all his wax work to Anna (Madame Tussauds) then she married Francois Tussauds. She started exhibiting her work and made her first permanent exhibition in Baker Street in London. Madame Tussauds made her self portrait wax on the year 1842 which is now on display in the museum. April 16, 1850 when she died in her sleep in London at the age of 88. At the right side of the nave of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Cadogan Street, London you will see a Memorial Tablet for Madame Tussauds.
